PROPORTIONAL:   Listed on this page are all the states whose delegates are decided in the Republican Primaries and Caucuses by the Proportional method.  That is, the delegates awarded to each based on the percentage of votes cast at party primaries or caucuses.  The projected delegates for each state are based upon by a poll by RealClearPolitics.com.

The distribution of delegates is defined in law state by state.   The results are certified by each state’s Secretary of State.   Most states have a Minimum Percent threshold for awarding state delegates.  Notice the 2nd column of the grid to the right titled Minimum %.

What this means is that a candidate must receive at least the percent of total votes cast in that state to be awarded any delegates.   For example, Alabama has a 20% threshold.   What that means is that if your candidate only gets 19% of the primary or caucus vote in that state, that candidate will be awarded no delegates whatsoever.  In Alabama and all other states with a Minimum Percent above 0% will distribute delegates only to those candidates whose votes exceed this minimum percent

Sincerely, Pastor Burt

Projections are not a science but an art based upon accepted statistical analysis.  Not every state has been polled as yet.   Where there are no published polls, the delegate projections have been distributed based upon the current national poll of polls.   The objective is to give a current snapshot for the entire country, so the best evidence rule has to be applied state by state.

Certainly, as soon as polling is available on these non-polled states, polling projections for those states will be used to swap in results specific to those states, rather than use the current national poll results.   As states and caucuses actually occur, the states listed above will be removed from this list, and moved to the Decided list on the front page of this site.
